Oh everyone, Felicity and Clare at Sam Crawford architects have 276 lead pencils already in for their Much Lead pencil project. So I want your drawers emptied, kids’ craft tins raided, and bottoms of bags searched as they only have another 3000 to go!  You can read about the project here, but basically the girls want to celebrate the creative community that is Surry Hills and what better way for designers, architects and artists to show it than through the humblest of their tools – the lead pencil. So let’s help them make their target (any schools/cafes that can help spread the word?). Much Lead is part of Object Gallery’s seriously action packed Spring progamme. See other fantastic calendar events here. (I can’t wait for the Blue exhibition, for sure my favourite colour, and what an incredible and fitting idea to make a complete exhibition about it!).  Back to pencils though, for a wood wedding anniversary I ordered 500 pencils that had `Happy Anniversary, with love from the wife’ made up from this fabulous  US based site and I have since had other messages made up for hard-to-buy-for friends, as thank you’s and favours. Top fun, trust me.  I actually  find it hard to stop myself from ordering. It’s like, “Hello, I know we’ve just met, but I have thought of a really great bespoke pencil I’d like to have made for you!”)

I have dutifully sent one of my anniversary ones to the Much Lead project and am going to go through my studio’s drawers to hunt down more. I cant wait to see them all installed. Be a part of it – pencil drop off’s can happen at the below locations.
