1 They have a tea called ‘Old Man’s Eyebrows’ in their tea rooms. True (if this sounds too hairy for you, they also have a lovely chrysanthemum one).
2 At said tearoom you are asked if you’d like a sweet or a savoury plate to accompany your tea. It is enough to fill you up for the gallery visit ahead and most of the things on there you wouldn’t have tasted before. Presentation is everything but it is also delicious and a generous gesture.
3 Incredible work in the gallery. Truly incredible. No words to describe the complexity, scope and beauty. Works are from 2000 onwards – uber modern, uber amazing
4 The library. It’s open to all and free, and houses only a small part of the total collection. To be surrounded by all of those beautiful books is wonderful. It’s on the third floor so it’s a lovely end to the gallery visit. All floors are exciting, energetic and incredible. They have a book club and a film club too, btw.
30 Balfour St, Chippendale
Open Thursday – Sunday from 10am til 6pm (Please remember this as you really need to see it and going by chance on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday will upset you and you will miss out if you don’t go back on Thursday through to Sunday!)

Zhang Chun Hong, Life Strand, 2004
Shi Jindian, Blue 750, 2008
But these pics are just pictures. You need to see Jim Feng’s long photograph ‘Letters without words” that wraps around in a L shape of the gallery corner. It speaks of the voiceless Chinese refugees. So powerful and beautiful at the same time.

Megan, thank you for your lovely post! I’ve been meaning to go to the gallery for ages, but your blog is what finally energised me into making the trip! Thanks so much! And the teahouse is quite a find! So glad you singled out White Rabbit for championing! x

It is my favorite gallery in Sydney – I have taken so many people there and they are all surprised at how fantastic it is. I love the piece of all the tiny acylic people falling off the chopsticks, made by the woman who never leaves home. Can’t wait for the new show in Sept.
Hi Megan,
Thanks for your fantastic review. We are so glad you enjoyed the White Rabbit! Our third exhibition, The Big Bang opened to the public yesterday. We hope you will have a chance to check out our new show!
Regards,
Beau
