INTERN UPDATE

February 18th, 2011

We are going to bring forward the closing date of the internship from February 28th. For no other reason than because we have truly been inundated. Such an inspired lot of notes and applications. It makes me really excited about the whole new guard of styling. There are a lot of super clever people out there. We are working on a short list of people to take tea with to take it to the next steps, so we will be in touch at the soonest.

I wanted to include a picture with this mini post but had zero time to ponder and didn’t really know what was the best visual pic, so offer you one of my favourite walls, Its illustrator Hugo Guiness’s wall of drawings at John Derians store in NYC. Pure styling porn.

CARAVAN CALL OUT.

February 16th, 2011

Jason Grant (over at his blog Mr Jason Grant - give him a looksie) and I are looking for a caravan. We both want one for different reasons, so we figured we mosewell put our stylist call outs together and see if there is one that can help us both out!

So, we cast the net out far and wide — anyone got a caravan with a bit of spunk?

Speaking of spunky caravans, I need to show you a truly divine one that I had the pleasure of shooting with my friends from Elk Accessories. See the story in a glossy mag soon. You will fall in love with them, their dog Grover and their van. Adorable. (Please dont be put off by Elk’s uber-dinky van, I am looking for one not so special! I mean, if we found one like this, amazing! And it doesn’t need to work persay, just have a goodish shell. I suspect it might need a coat of paint, an internal revamp etc, potted geraniums etc!)

And lastly, it must be noted that clever Rebecca Wolkenstein’s insanely generous concept of Caravan – a world wide house share / swap service should be visited! It is, as she explains, `like Craigslist, but for Creatives!’. Put it out there, where you need to go in the world, or a space you have available and be amazed at what the Caravan universe throws back at you!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

February 13th, 2011

As part of my Sally Seltman video clip fest, worked on an Interflora television commercial with my team. It seems fitting to be sharing it with you now!

Truth be known, I basically would do anything Sally Seltman asked me to / told me to. Sally wrote the song that appears on the tvc and it really is the cuteness.

Have a look, crack a smile, spot Rachel Castles sweet little felt hearts she made up for us for the opening scene. View Sally’s amazing voice and some sugar sweet sentiment right now, here …

Happy Valentines Day to us all. Can I share with you another great flower tip off? The Flower Drum, that is right. See them here. Beyond adorable. (Yes, they really did write `If you dont order your flowers from us you will be a Sadface, Basket case!’). Too good. Order one of their rose or carnation flower bombs and send it to a random. Go on, I dare you. Then, after you have fallen for Sally Seltmans song ‘Your Always’ on the Interflora clip, laugh out loud to the Flower Drum’s little video here. Trust me, its completely worth it.

MUSIC LOVE

February 12th, 2011

Sally Seltmann. What a woman, What a voice. We were so pleased to be asked to work on her new video clip. More to come later as it all secret music stuff till it’s release, but what a mammoth production it was. Some behind the scene shots below. Thank you Renee Anne, Cailtin, Monique and Angela. I love the last shot – the exhausted labrador cooling off on the floor tiles!

London.

John Carter Flowers

It’s a bit show-offy-ish, right? Showing how he can do meticulous flower balls in a window display and then a loose cascading garland the next? These two approaches producing two very different outcomes illustrate the studio’s effortless pursuit of flowers in their raw beauty. John Carter makes the most intricate floral arrangements look natural and easy. If I were Madonna I would so get John to do me a twice weekly garland like this in seasonal blooms for the front of my house.

JAPAN

Shogo Kariyazaki

Don’t expect anything typical or conventional (as you know it) by Shogo Kariyazaki. Extremely special and totally unconventional. If you need to do flowers properly in Japan, this is who to contact. They have an almost cosmic approach to flowers and manage to turn traditional concepts on their heads.
